Verdon Gorge Day Trips
One Day, the Whole Canyon
Why a guided day trip is the smartest first visit.
A first visit to the Gorges du Verdon is daunting to plan: the canyon is around 25 kilometres long, the famous viewpoints sit on narrow, partly one-way clifftop roads, and the best of it — the Route des Crêtes, Point Sublime, the turquoise Lac de Sainte-Croix and the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie — is spread across a wide loop. A full-day guided tour stitches it all into one well-judged circuit so you spend the day looking at the canyon, not at a map.
Most day trips run from the coast and the Provence cities, with the longest, most scenic legs from Nice along the legendary Route Napoléon. They typically combine several belvedere viewpoints over the gorge, a stop on Lac de Sainte-Croix, and time to wander Moustiers and its faïence shops — with the driving, the parking and the timing handled for you.
Coming from a specific base, jump to the dedicated day trips from Nice or from Aix-en-Provence. If you’d rather get onto the water once you arrive, pair this with a boat or kayak tour on the lake; for the river itself, see rafting and canyoning from Castellane. The Verdon is at its best May to September.

What Travelers Say
"One of the best experiences of my life. Such a luxury to be able to access these beautiful areas with someone else driving and knowing all of the best spots to stop. Our guide was Flo, amazing- truly exceptional driver with very high knowledge of the history and interesting information for the tour. Perfect and consistent communication with the company to arrange pickup and confirm. Seeing the gorge at many stops, browsing the villages and then getting to swim in the lake were great. We had a little over an hour at the lake- enough time to rent a pedal boat if you move quick. Bring water shoes for best experience."

"Tour was great. Justine, our tour leader was awesome! Highly recommend this tour. I enjoyed the boat ride."
"We had a wonderful day on this trip, truly one of the highlights of our time here. It was both enjoyable and informative, with just the right balance of guided insight and time to explore. The stops at the villages were especially memorable, offering beautiful scenery and a chance to experience the local charm up close. George was fantastic! He was attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure we knew exactly which sites to see at each stop, which made everything feel seamless and stress-free. What really stood out was his enthusiasm! He genuinely loves what he does, and that energy made the experience even more special. Highly recommend!"
"Elizabeth was our tour guide. She was fun, informative and provided a safe trip! Elizabeth connected with each of the eight members of our group. We enjoyed spending the day with her. Thank you Elizabeth!"
"Enjoyed it! Jeff was cool! Sad, due to the heat wave the lavenders had to be harvested earlier. Other than that, the trip was amazing. Spots were worth it with good view points, boat rides etc. Also, get swimwear."
"Incredible, worth the price. See so many incredible spots along the journey and the driver Mario is world class and a great person that makes the experience all the more better."

"The guide Mario is the best. He made the trip 10 times better. The views during the drive, village and lake are so scenic. Highly recommend this trip."

What to expect from a full-day guided tour of the canyon.
Most full-day tours combine several clifftop viewpoints over the canyon, a stop at the turquoise Lac de Sainte-Croix, and time in the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, with round-trip transport and a guide. Exact stops vary by departure city.
The most common departures are from Nice (often via the Route Napoléon), Aix-en-Provence (the closest base), and other Provence and Riviera towns. Aix means the least driving; Nice is the longest but most scenic run.
Verdon day trips are full-day outings, typically 8–11 hours including travel. Trips from Nice are the longest because of the distance from the coast.
Standard day trips focus on the panoramic viewpoints, the lake and the villages rather than descending to the riverbed. To get into the water, add a boat, kayak or rafting trip.
Most day trips stop in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, a listed 'most beautiful village' known for faïence ceramics and the gold star strung between two cliffs. Confirm on the specific tour.
May to September, when the roads and lake are fully open. June and September balance good weather with fewer crowds. Late June to mid-July adds the chance of lavender.
Usually not — most day trips allow free time for lunch in a village such as Moustiers. Check each tour; a few include a picnic or lunch.
The canyon roads are winding, so bring motion-sickness remedies if you're prone to it. Smaller-vehicle and private tours can be gentler than large coaches.
In bloom season (roughly late June to mid-July) some day trips add the Valensole lavender. Outside that window, choose a tour focused on the canyon, lake and villages.
Most day trips allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. Confirm the policy on each booking page before you pay.
